He played college football at East Carolina.
In 2005, he captured the district and regional titles in the shot put and the discus.
He advanced to the state finals in the shot put and discus as a junior and senior; in 2006, he placed 3rd in the shot put and 2nd in the discus, and as a senior, he won the state title in the shot put.
He was also timed at 5.0 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Regarded as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, Joseph was featured in the 2007 Rivals Recruiting Yearbook.
Joseph attended East Carolina University from 2007 to 2009.
