Lev Yashin was born on October 22, 1929 in Bogorodskoye, Moscow, USSR as Lev Ivanovich Yashin.
At the beginning of his sports career, Yashin also played ice hockey (from 1950 to 1953). In 1953, he became the owner of the USSR Hockey Cup and the bronze medalist of the USSR Championship, also acting as a goalkeeper.
In 1959, Yashin spent three friendly matches, playing for the "Torpedo".
Lev Yashin was the first goalkeeper in Soviet football, who had a hundred games "to zero." The hundredth in his account was the match of the national championship between Dynamo and CSKA on October 28, 1962.
He is the only goalkeeper ever to win the European Footballer of the Year Award (1963). He is also believed to have blocked around 150 penalty kicks during his career; far more than any other goalkeeper in history.
On July 2, 1967, Lev Yashin entered the field with the rank of captain of the Turkish national football team, who met in Istanbul with Galatasaray. The match was dedicated to the Turkish goalkeeper Turgay Sheren, who was leaving football, who defended the colors of his club in this game. In the game, Yashin did not miss a single ball, and Sheren twice removed the ball from the net.
On August 31 of 1971, Yashin again entered the field; this time he defended the gates of the world stars team in a match against Italy (which won the match with a score of 4: 2).
Yashin's grandson, Vasiliy Frolov (born February 22, 1986), was also a football goalkeeper: he played for the Dynamo backup team, Dynamo (St. Petersburg) and Zelenograd , completed his career in 2009, worked as a physical education teacher, and later became a coach of a children's football team .
Lev Yashin was awarded by Golden Order of Merit, FIFA (1988).
Yevgeniy Yevtushenko wrote a poem about Yashin, "The goalkeeper goes out of the gate", which was included in the book "My Footballiada". The poet read a poem before the matches of the Dynamo national teams and the world teams (veterans and current players at that time) on the day of the celebration of Yashin's 60th birthday on August 10, 1989 at the Dynamo stadium in Petrovskiy Park in Moscow.
