Haines was a voice-over regular on the popular 1930s radio series "Gangbusters" that featured weekly episodes based actual crime incidents. Each program ended with various descriptions of wanted criminals, many of whom were later arrested due to avid listener participation.

1951

Costarred as "the police lieutenant" on NBC Radio's "The Amazing Mr. Malone" (1951).

1953

Appeared in scores of programs from radio's "Golden Age", such as "Suspense", the "Shadow", "Inner Sanctum Mysteries", and "X Minus One". Mr. Haines also starred in a short-lived series of 1953, "That Hammer Guy", in which he played the character created by Mickey Spillane, "Mike Hammer".

1966

Was twice nominated for Broadway's Tony Award: in 1966, as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Dramatic) for "Generation," and in 1969, as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical) for "Promises, Promises."

1974

Between 1974 and 1982, he appeared in 82 episodes of the "CBS Radio Mystery Theater."

1976

He won Daytime Emmies in 1976 & 1981 for Search for Tomorrow (1951).

2004
