Kitty Winn was born in Washington D. C. and spent much of her childhood time traveling to China, India and Japan. She made her Broadway debut in 1969 in "The Three Sisters" and won the Golden Palm Award at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival for her role opposite Al Pacino in The Panic in Needle Park (1971). She also starred in "Hamlet" for New York's Shakespeare in the Park.

Her performance as "Helen" in The Panic in Needle Park (1971) is ranked #76 on Premiere Magazine's 100 Greatest Performances of All Time (2006).

1972

Portrayed Ophelia in a star-studded 1972 NY production of "Hamlet" starring Stacy Keach Colleen Dewhurst and James Earl Jones.

1973

She created the great role of "Sharon" in the Academy Award-winning motion picture The Exorcist--The Version You've Never Seen Before (1973) and such an outright embarrassment in Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977).

1978

Winn initially retired in 1978 upon getting married and having a child, but briefly returned to acting in 1982, doing some television. After one last acting role, a guest spot in Partners in Crime (1984), she permanently retired from acting to focus on raising her family.

2006

Granddaughter of General George C. Marshall, wartime Chief of Staff in World War II. She later sold the painting "A View of Tinherir" by Sir Winston Churchill which had been given to Gen. Marshall by the famous British Prime Minister; the painting sold at auction for $1.2 million (11 December 2006).

2011

Winn came out of retirement for a one-time occasion to do a stage performance in 2011, by playing the lead in The Last Romance at the San Jose Repertory Theatre. She was nominated for a best actress award by the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle.
