He graduated from Yong In University.

2008

At the 2008 Asian Judo Championships, his first international adult competition, he won a gold medal.

2011

He went on to win a bronze medal in the 2011 World Judo Championships.

2012

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he reached the semi-finals where he lost to eventual champion Teddy Riner.

He then lost his bronze medal match to Rafael Silva.

2016

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he was knocked out in the second round to Roy Meyer.
