Justin Jin (entrepreneur)

Justin Muen Jin also known under his YouTube Alias as 50mMidas, is a Canadian internet entrepreneur and producer.

Jin’s work has faced criticism for labor practices and copyright issues.

In 2006, Jin was born in Vancouver, Canada.

According to GQ, Jin lives in Ambleside, West Vancouver.

In 2019, he graduated from elementary school and attended Mulgrave School for his high school education.

One of Jin’s early business ventures was Cuatro Seasons, an e-commerce brand.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he started the 50mMidas YouTube channel where he uploads and produces Minecraft videos.

In 2021, with $2,000 CAD from the channel, he acquired celebrity gossip platform Celebrity Observer, and grouped a team of teenagers to operate a small portfolio of social media pages on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to appeal to Generation Z.

In 2023, after a series of additional media acquisitions, Jin incorporated the collective as Poybo Media Group.

The same year, his media company had around 500 million unique viewers according to Daily Trust.

In 2024, Jin sold a subsidiary of Poybo in Lekki, Nigeria to Africa Media Group, forming Poybo Africa to target Nigerian and South African media consumers.

It became "among the largest youth media companies in Africa" according to an analysis by Business Insider.

Jin’s conglomerate has drawn criticism for hiring foreign cheap labor, “regarding the exploitation of young creators and the hiring of workers in precarious conditions in developing countries,” as reported by Excélsior.

As 50mMidas on Spotify, he produced sped-up songs and peaked at 500,000 monthly listeners.

All of his songs were removed from streaming platforms due to a copyright complaint raised by Columbia Records.
