Jerry Springer was born on February 13, 1944 in London, England as Gerald Norman Springer.
Born in a London Underground station after his family fled the Holocaust. The family - mom Margot, dad Richard, and sister Evelyn - moved to Queens, New York in 1949 when Jerry was 5.
Graduated in 1961 from Forest Hills High School in Forest Hills, Queens, New York.
Was a campaign aide to Sen. Robert F. Kennedy's campaign. [1968]
Won a seat on Cincinnati's Council-at-Large in 1971, but resigned in 1974 after police - raiding a Fort Wright, Kentucky "health club" - found a check he had written to a "massuse" for her services. Coming clean at a press conference, he admitted that he paid for sex with two personal checks in December 1973 and January 1974. His honesty worked, and he won back his seat in 1975.
Daughter Katie (born 1976) was born without nasal passages, a condition which was fixed through surgery right after she was born. She is also legally blind and deaf in one ear. She worked as an assistant teacher at Chicago's Park School, working with children with special needs.
Was elected mayor of Cincinnati in 1977 for one year, receiving the largest plurality in history.
