Played on the PGA Tour in 1996 and 2002, and won the 1997 Dominion Open.

Was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in October 2001. By February 2004 he had lost his ability to speak and lost strength in his arms and legs. He had to type letters into a hand-held computer and have the computer speak the words. Right before the Masters in April 2003, he accepted the Ben Hogan Award from the Golf Writers Association of America, awarded to a player who remains active in golf despite a physical handicap or serious illness.
