Jules Maynard Lovins "Jay," was named after French novelist, Jules Verne and grew up in Hollywood, California, as the child of known artists, Henry and Mona Lue Lovins, who founded the Hollywood Art Center School in 1912. At an early age, Lovins was surrounded by many avant-garde artists and filmmakers. As a result, he naturally developed a passion for filmmaking and greatly admired the work of Charlie Chaplin. As an Independent filmmaker, he became known for his cutting-edge special effects. Lovins graduated from Hollywood High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Television and Cinema Arts at BYU with minors in Speech, Psychology, German, Chemistry and Physics.

1964

He later received his Master of Arts Degree in Motion PIctures in 1964 from UCLA, working under the tutelage of Lee Garmes, Jean Renoir and Stanley Kramer. As President of Hollywood Film Associates and Threshold Films, Lovins garnered over twenty International Awards for Writing, Directing, and Producing and is credited with over seventy films including features and films for televisions, commercials and documentaries.

1982

International awards include: Venice International Film Festival (First Prize), New York Film Festival (First Prize) Edinburgh International Film Festival, Cine-Golden Eagle, HALO Award for contributions to the Motion Picture Industry in 1982. He was closely associated with John Carradine, Lew Ayres, Vilmos Zsigmond, Herbie Kerns, George White and Lon Channey Jr. ,Instructor of Cinema: UCLA, Los Angeles College, Pasadena College. Hosted seminars in colleges, conferences and festivals throughout the world. Appeared on radio and television interview show promoting various films in current release. Articles and reviews of Jay Lovins films have appeared in the following publications: Los Angeles Times, American Cinematographer, Harold Examiner, Film News, Valley News, Magic Lantern, UCLA Daily Bruin, Media and Methods, Fresno Bee, Lander's Film Reviews etc. , etc. Served in the U. S. Air Force as a clinical psychologist during the Korean War. Served an LDS mission in West Germany. Hobbies included running, photography, tennis, music, golf, travel and writing.
