Iryna Venediktova

Iryna Valentynivna Venediktova (born 21 September 1978) is a Ukrainian politician, diplomat, lawyer, Doctor of the Science of Law, professor.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The first female Prosecutor General in the history of Ukraine.

Born September 21, 1978 in city Kharkiv (Ukrainian SSR) in a family of lawyers.

Father – Valentyn Semenovych Venediktov, was a major general of the police, Doctor of the Science of Law, professor, an honored lawyer of Ukraine, a corresponding member of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine, former vice-rector of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.

Mother – Valentyna Mykhailivna Venediktova, Phd in Law, worked both at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University and Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.

In 2000, Venediktova graduated with honors from the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Faculty of Management and Informatics, specialty “Law and Management”.

Marital status: married, two children.

2000–2004 – lecturer of the Department of Law of the Kharkiv Humanitarian Institute of the People's Ukrainian Academy.

In 2003 at the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy passed her PhD thesis on «Agreement on trust management of property as a form of implementation of the legal institution of trust management of property in Ukraine», received a PhD in Law.

2004 р.

– Associate professor of the Department of Justice of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

2005–2019 – Head of the Department of Civil Law at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

2010-2019 – Member of the Foundation of Medical Law and Bioethics of Ukraine;

2012-2015 – Leading researcher of the Research Institute of Legal support of innovative Development of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine;

In 2013, at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, she passed her doctoral thesis on the subject of “Protection of interests guaranteed by law in civil law”.

In 2014, she received the academic rank of professor at the Department of Civil Law at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

She trained Doctor of Philosophy, passed one thesis of Doctor of Law Science and ten theses of PhD of Law Sciences.

Combined scientific and pedagogical work with practical activity:

2016-2019 – Arbitrator of the International commercial Arbitration Court at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry;

2016-2019 – Member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Supreme Court of Ukraine.

Author of more than 100 scientific and methodological works published in domestic and foreign publications, including 8 monographs, 80 scientific and 4 scientific and methodological publications.

On March 17, 2020, Iryna Venediktova was appointed Prosecutor General (Decree of the President of Ukraine from 17.03.2020 No. 90/2020).

In 2018, she became an advisor to Volodymyr Zelensky on legal issues.

In the election headquarters of the presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky was an expert on the reform of the judicial system.

Director of the State Bureau of Investigation ad interim (from December 27, 2019, to March 17, 2020).

Member of Parliament of Ukraine from the Servant of the People party of the 9th convocation (from August 29, 2019, to January 14, 2020).

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy (from August 29, 2019, to December 27, 2019).

In the parliamentary elections of 2019, she was included in the list of political party “Servant of the People” number 3 in the list.

On July 21, 2019, she was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the IX convocation.

On August 29, 2019, she took the oath of the MP of Ukraine.

Iryna Venediktova became the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee in which she was the head of was the main committee in the adoption of the law “On Amendments to Article 80 of the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the immunity of MPs of Ukraine)”.

On December 27, 2019, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 961/2019, Iryna Venediktova was appointed Director of the State Bureau of Investigation ad interim.

Iryna Venediktova became the first woman in the history of Ukraine which was the head of the state law enforcement agency.

In office – from March 17, 2020, to July 19, 2022.

In a fairly short period of leadership, until March 17, 2020, she managed to introduce a new organizational structure of the SBI.

A separate investigative unit was created in the criminal proceedings of the Maidan case.

A system of monthly reports of the SBI to the public and foreign partners on the results of the law enforcement agency and separately on Maidan cases was introduced.

Since March 13, 2020, Venediktova is a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
