Ian Smales (born 26 September 1968) is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s.

He played at representative level for Great Britain (non-Test matches), and Yorkshire, and at club level for Featherstone Rovers, Castleford Tigers and Hunslet Hawks, as a, or , consequently he was known as a Utility player.

A former English Schools international at, Smales signed for Featherstone Rovers from Lock Lane amateurs in April 1987.
