Timeline

1949

Ian Copeland was born on April 25, 1949 in Damascus, Syria. He was married to Constance Walden.

1967

In 1967 he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to fight in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star and numerous other medals. After his discharge he moved to London where he landed a job as a booking agent. He moved back to the US in the mid-70s.

1970

He was a booking agent and promoter who helped launch New Wave alt-rock in the 1970s and 80s. At first he had difficulty getting US concert venues to book the new bands he discovered in the UK. He arranged to have the bands build up a following by touring small clubs in the US. This strategy worked for The Police and the B-52s. His talent agency represented Adam Ant, the Bangles, the Smiths, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and the Dead Kennedys.
