Timeline

1932

Harlan Lattimore, known as "The Black Crosby" was a vocalist with some of the preeminent black dance bands of the early to mid 30s, most notably that of Don Redman. He recorded with several other groups, and was one of the first black singers to record with a white band (Isham Jones, 1932).

1937

Despite his considerable singing talent, which laid the groundwork for such later singing stars such as Nat King Cole and Billy Eckstine, Lattimore gradually receded from the music scene after 1937. Contemporary reports indicate that he had a narcotics problem.
