He was a part of the Indian team, who won the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games held at Incheon.

Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won the first match 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4 against Mohd Azlan Iskandar of Malaysia and gave India a 1-0 lead over Malaysia, after which Saurav Ghosal won the second match, thus providing India with the gold medal in Men's Team event.

He was conferred the Arjuna Award for 2023.
