Timeline

1967

One of the first individuals appointed to the Order of Canada five days after its creation in 1967. At the time there were only two levels to the order: "Companion" and "Medal of Service". He received the Medal of Service. In 1972 the Order was altered and all recipients of the medal of service were invited to exchange their medals for the Officer's badge, but he opted not to. In 2007 the medal was in the media since, in violation of Canadian law, it had been put up for auction on the popular Internet auction site ebay. When the auction was halted bidding for the item had reached more than $15,000 Canadian Dollars. This is believed to be one of the few existing examples of this rare medal since most were melted by the Royal Canadian mint upon their exchange.
