Guga Chacra or Gustavo Cerello Chacra (born 27 May 1976) is a Brazilian journalist.

He is a commentator on international politics for the GloboNews programs, Em Pauta and Jornal das Dez.

Chacra is also a regular anchor of GloboNews Internacional.

Chacra was born 27 May 1976 in São Paulo, Brazil.

He is the grandson of Italian and Lebanese migrants who were Greek-Orthodox Christians.

His father was Antonio Roberto Chacra, a doctor and former vice president of the International Diabetes Federation.

Initially, Chacra was encouraged by his father to be a doctor.

However, he was drawn to journalism at an early age.

He was an avid follower of sports news and this interest expanded to international journalism due to his interest in the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

1990

Chacra graduated at the Cásper Líbero College in the late 1990s.

1998

He began his career as a journalist in December 1998 after winning the Folha de S. Paulo trainee competition.

1999

He left São Paulo to work as a reporter for Revista ISTOE in March 1999.

2000

He returned to his old company in August of the same year and worked as its international correspondent based in Buenos Aires from January 2000 to January 2002.

2005

Chacra moved to New York City in August 2005 and obtained a master's degree in International Relations from Columbia University.

2007

After graduating, he travelled throughout the Middle East from 2007 to 2008.

This is said to have begun his working relationship with O Estado de S. Paulo, the largest Brazilian newspaper.

In July 2007, he was officially employed at O Estado de S. Paulo as its international correspondent for the Middle East.

He started publishing an award-winning blog for the newspaper's web portal called “From Beirut to New York.”

After he returned to New York, Chacra was invited to comment for a program of GloboNews, the largest Brazilian news broadcaster.

After this stint, he was offered a correspondent job at the company's New York studio.

Chacra appears regularly in several GloboNews programs, which include Em Pauta, Jornal das Dez, and Jornal GloboNews.

Chacra's Twitter page is considered to be one of the most influential in Latin America by Foreign Policy.

Chacra is also an outspoken supporter of Brazilian football, particularly the football club SE Palmeiras.
