Lyricist ("When I Fall in Love," "Body and Soul"), author and producer, educated at the University of Michigan. He wrote college musicals, then Broadway musicals, including "Here Goes the Bride," "Through the Years," "Murder at the Vanities," and "Pardon Our French," plus "Bluebird of Happiness" for Radio City Music Hall. Coming to Hollywood in 1938, he wrote songs for films until joining the US Air Force during World War II, where he wrote the musical "At Your Service.
