Dave Matthews was born on January 9, 1967 in Johannesburg, South Africa as David John Matthews.

1990

He was in several plays in 1990-1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

1993

In 1993 his eldest sister, Anne, died in a domestic tragedy at her home in South Africa. The DMB album "Under the Table and Dreaming" is dedicated to her. Anne is survived by her two children.

1996

Has appeared on VH1 Storytellers (1996) with guitarist/friend Tim Reynolds.

1997

His band has had three Grammy nominated albums: "Under the Table and Dreaming," "Before these Crowded Streets," and "Big Whiskey and Grug Grux King". The band also won a Grammy in 1997 for their Rock song "So Much To Say.".

1999

He broke two ribs in 1999 after an accident while performing a grape-catching trick; he tripped over a guitar case and landed on the arm of a chair.

2000

In 2000 he co-founded his own record label, ATO Records.

2001
