The film placed as a Wasserman Finalist in the NYU First Run film festival in 2009, the highest achievement given to student films at the institution. Clifton originally grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he was an active musician, actor, and filmmaker during his high school years. He won a Student Emmy Award for acting in and directing his own television series. Dan also enjoys developing new technology including several Virtual Reality stand-alone games. He is the co-creator (along with Brightburn Director David Yarovesky) of Belko VR: An Escape Room Experiment, which remains the highest-rated Film/VR marketing tie-in released to date on the gaming platform Steam.
In 2012, Dan produced the voyeuristic horror film The Den, which sold to IFC Midnight and was one of the best-reviewed horror films of 2014. Dan attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for Film and Television where he wrote, directed and produced the short film, For All Mankind, which won a National Board of Review Student Scholarship and The Alfred P. Sloan Science and Film Award.
Dan has also worked as a producer on numerous projects with The Safran Company including The Belko Experiment for MGM/Orion in 2016, The Choice for Lionsgate in 2014, and The Atticus Institute in 2013.
Previously, Dan produced The Boy Downstairs, which premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival and was distributed domestically by FilmRise.
The romantic-comedy from first-time writer/director Sophie Brooks was picked up for an exclusive run on HBO in 2018.
Dan Clifton is an American film producer and technologist, who lives in New Orleans and Los Angeles. Dan served as Executive Producer on The H Collective Superhero Horror film Brightburn, which Sony Pictures Entertainment released in theaters worldwide in May of 2019. The film was Produced by James Gunn and Kenneth Huang, Executive Produced by Nic Crawley and Simon Hatt, based on a screenplay by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn and directed by David Yarovesky. Dan Executive Produced the upcoming western thriller "The Last Manhunt," along with Jason Momoa, Brian Mendoza, Martin Kistler and Eric Laciste.
Shot in the Joshua Tree area in the fall of 2019, the film tells the tragic story of the Willie Boy legend and stars Martin Sensmeier, Manei Kinimaka, Zahn McClarnon, Raoul Trujilo, Brandon Oakes, Jamie Sives, Momoa and Christian Camargo. Dan produced the family crime-thriller A Violent Separation, starring Brenton Thwaites, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Ben Robson Claire Holt and Ted Levine, directed by The Goetz Brothers.
The film was also released in the United States by Screen Media in Summer 2019.
