Timeline

1959

Dagobert Böhm (born 1959 in Mannheim) is a German guitarist and music producer who combines folk and jazz.

Böhm, who received his first guitar lessons from his mother, attended the Waldorf schools in Freiburg and Hamborn Castle and studied music and violin making in detail.

Out of an interest in Indian classical music, he built a sitar himself.

At the age of 16, he began performing publicly as a guitarist.

Initially, he was influenced by acoustic guitar music, such as that of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, or Werner Lämmerhirt, and the singer-songwriter genre.

He came into contact with jazz through Joni Mitchell.

1982

Böhm's first album, Sound of Wood, released in 1982, was critically acclaimed.

1987

This was followed by his album Acoustic Moods (Delta/Jazzline 1987), which was also well received.

1993

His CD Morning Flight was voted one of the best instrumental productions of 1993 in Spain.

1998

With saxophonist Tony Lakatos and percussionist Kornél Horváth, Böhm founded the WorldJazz project Acoustic Unit, which released the CD of the same name in 1998.

1999

In 1999, his guitar solo album Circle Around was released on his own label, Ozella, which was initially founded for this purpose.

2000

He also formed his new trio String Unit (an album of the same name in 2000) with violinist Zoltán Lantos and guitar colleague Markus Reuter.

2002

On his album Dago: Sounds for a Blue Planet (2002), which was classified as smooth jazz, he worked with Steven Toeteberg, Zoltán Lantos, Tony Lakatos, Kornél Horváth, Béla Lattmann, Markus Reuter, Tokunbo Akinro, Maria Hiorth Peterson, Soluna Samay, and others.

In the next two decades, the focus was on working as a producer for his label Ozella, which released recordings by musicians such as Helge Lien, Edgar Knecht, Karitiker, Gunnar Halle, Hands on Strings, Randi Tytingvåg, and Trio Bravo+.

After a serious illness, his album Within a Dream (2021) was created with the saxophonist Karl Seglem and other musicians.
