On 1 October, he scored his first goal for Chelsea, a 90th-minute winner in a 2–1 away victory over his former club, Crystal Palace.
On 28 May 2023, Gallagher won Chelsea's Goal of the Season for the strike.
Ahead of the 2023–24 season, Chelsea rejected a bid for Gallagher from West Ham United.
On 31 August 2023, Gallagher captained Chelsea for the first time, in a 2–1 EFL Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon.
He said he had a point to prove after the club contemplated selling him during the summer.
He scored his first goal of the season in a 3–1 win at Aston Villa in the fourth round replay of the FA Cup on 7 February 2024.
