Beverly grew up in Culver City, California, just a few blocks from MGM Studios where her father, Thomas Luff, was a prop master. Her mother, Helen Luff, enrolled her in dance and drama classes at the age of four. She made her first film, Roarin' Lead (1936), when she was just five years old. By the time she turned six, she was known as "the fastest little tapper in Hollywood. " Beverly made a number of films for MGM and other studios over the course of the next decade.
