M. Badiul Alam (born 28 February 1949) is a Bangladeshi academic who served as the 13th vice chancellor of the University of Chittagong.

M. Badiul Alam was born in Maheshkhali in the distrit of Cox's Bazar in 1949.

1969

He completed his undergraduation at the Chittagong Government College and subsequently dis his M.A. in Political Science at the University of Dhaka in 1969, another M.A. in Political Science at the University of Waterloo, Canada in 1977 and finally Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Delhi, India in 1986.

He served as the dean, head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Chittagong and president of Bangladesh Political Science Association.

1971

Alam began his professional career as a Lecturer in Political Science at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1971; became Chairman of the department in 1980; promoted to the position of Professor in 1987; elected Dean of the faculty of Social Science in 1988; appointed as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor in 1991 and finally, Vice-Chancellor of the same University in 2006.

He held all these position at the University of Chittagong.

1990

Dr. Alam chaired the position President of Bangladesh Political Science Association during 1990-92 and held many other professional positions like executing editor of Chittagong University Studies (Humanities, Social Science and Commerce), Editorial Board Member of Bangladesh Political Studies, Fellow of the International Centre for Asian Studies, Hong Kong, South Asian Studies group, Delhi etc.

2006

Dr. Alam received Gold Medal for Bangladesh in 2006 from Americal Biographical Institute for his outstanding contribution to Social and Educational Development in Bangladesh.

2008

He also received Order of International Ambassador (OIA) Medal for the year 2008 from the same institute for his outstanding services to World Society.

Dr. Alam published papers in international journals.

His field of specialisation includes Governance studies with reference to South-East and South Asian countries, Social Change and Development, Comparative Political systems of Developed and Developing countries; Democracy and Authoritarianism, Globalization.

He is an author of 'গণতন্ত্র ও কর্তৃত্ববাদ' (Democracy and Authoritarianism), a book used as a reference book by both the teachers and the students of many disciplines at the Universities and Colleges in Bangladesh.

2011

He was also the Vice-Chancellor of the Royal University of Dhaka in 2011.

While discharging these onerous responsibilities, he proved himself both as an outstanding scholar as well as the most efficient administrator.

Formerly, he served as an Adjunct Faculty at the Northern University, Dhaka and Chittagong Independent University.
