The first person to fly solo over both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, when she completed the trip from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California in 1935. Her trip took 18 hours (today it takes a little over 5 hours).

1937

Aviatrix who disappeared on 2 July 1937 while attempting an around-the-world flight along the Equator. Husband George Putnam had her declared legally dead on 5 January 1939 so that he could remarry. Linda Finch completed the flight in a restored Lockheed 10E Electra in 1997.
